June and July and August, 2006

Japan Photo-Gallery
It’s Summer Time!! That means one thing: V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N!!

Yes, this July-August, I went to Japan for 3 weeks by myself!

It’s been 11 years since I last visited Japan and since then, many things have changed and upgraded, but some things have remained the same.

I was able to visit relatives and friends and traveled to such places as Tokyo, Yokohama, Aizu-Wakamatsu, Himeji, Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, and Nagoya! Enjoy my top 20 favorite photos to get a little taste of my trip!

ARTS 2006
Yet again, I have made it into the Surrey Art Gallery’s ARTS 2006 Juried Exhibition of Local Art. This is my 5th year entering and every year I have entered photographs that have been selected for the show. Although I didn’t place this year, I was very happy to be able to be part of a community project and get recognition for what I love to do!

The exhibition ran from June 29 to August 27, and the photograph they selected was called “Speak Your Mind, London” (one of my photographs from my Europe trip in 2005)

Mr. Yasuo Araki
3 years ago (November 2003 to be exact) I had my very first solo art exhibition at the Pan Pacific Vancouver Hotel in this little fancy art gallery. The owner of this gallery was Yasuo Araki, my fellow inspiring artist and friend! His many years of experience and knowledge with art has encouraged me to continue my passion for painting, and it is because he was kind enough to let me use his gallery space and time that I am here today doing these little updates every few months!

Mr. Araki has finally put together his own online gallery for us to enjoy and envy!

Please take a few moments to look at his wonderful artworks at:www.yasuoaraki.ca

(Closing remarks)
There shall be more to come when September rolls along, and October brings lots of scary surprises! Halloween will soon be here once again! Now, what shall I be this year?!

April and May, 2006 - 2006 Rocks!

So, Easter and Mother’s Day has both come and gone! Not that I created anything with those 2 themes in mind, Here is my latest artworks and news:

2006 Rocks~! (No pun intended)
I had so much fun with my first set of rock paintings from last year that I decided to paint a bunch more! This time around I tried to integrate my “Flying Free” birds to create more of a narrative story and to give each rock a more personal meaning. Some however, are just plain colorful and abstract, experimenting with different techniques. I have so far completed 30 rocks and these are my favorites up to now. My goal is paint a total of 100 rocks! Wish me luck!

Strawberry Hill Library Exhibition
May latest library exhibition is being held at this library from May 1-31, 2006. They allowed me to display in a glass case which is located next to the ‘Information’ booth in the library. I feel lucky to be able to showcase my art to the public in hopes of getting some good feedback and responses!

If you’re in the Surrey/Delta areas come and check out my most recent works!

I am still currently working on my Driftwood Art, but I have completed 3 and they are all quite different from one another. I’m having a great time experimenting with design, color and concepts for each one.

Nature creates wonderful things for us to work from, and sometimes it’s a challenge to see how we can use what is given and make it our own.

I will have images up and ready to show you in the June updates!

Keep your eyes open

2 years later, here I am displaying the most recent paintings up on the walls of this library again! Time flies when you’re busying being creative!

A change from the past, I decided to put up a mix of both photography (“Covered Up Girl” series) and paintings to give a variety of things for the viewers to look at and enjoy.

Go with the Flow”, “A Teardrop of Tea”, “Meeting up for Coffee” and “Wine drop of Swirls” have not been displayed publicly anywhere until now (that is how NEW and FRESH they are!) I hope they will be enjoyed by everyone in the library!

This display will be up from: March 1st to April 30th, 2006, so if you’re in the Cloverdale area, come and check out my art!

A Look into the Past- “Covered Up Girl”- relived

In 2003, I was a very enthusiastic Fine Arts student at Kwantlen University College. I was in a land of dreams and unlimited imagination (not that I’m not imaginative now).

One of my photography courses included a project that dealt with media and advertisement and how we viewed them, our opinions and complaints about how certain things in our society seem wrong or misleading and negative. With that in mind, I created my “Covered Up Girl” photograph series. The entire series had about 6-7 different images and quotes dealing with my opinion about make-up.

Here are my 4 favourite ones with a statement about how I feel and think about the ridiculous reasoning behind wearing make-up.

I myself am a victim of wearing make-up I admit! Society sure has brainwashed me in thinking that I look better wearing it. Deep inside though, I look OK without it too I think!

Read the revised write-up for "Covered Up Girl" here.

Keep your eyes open for April’s Updates:

  • Strawberry Hill Library Exhibition ( Surrey)
  • NEW! Rock Paintings
  • NEW! Painted wood sculptures

February 28, 2006 - What is Love? - Photo Gallery

So, Valentine’s Day has come and gone by quickly…….. I myself was pulled into the materialistic buying of heart chocolates, cute plush dolls and also receiving, lots of chocolates, a surprise bouquet of flowers and a card!....but my love can’t be bought….no no no….

This month was a creative one for me. Using fabric samples that I had from the past; my experimentation discovered a new collage-like painting style, using the similar themes from ‘Flying Free’ and ‘Flying in 2005’series.

I named my new series “The Materialistic Birds of 2006
The play on words adds the ‘fun-ness’ with this new idea of combining paint and fabric. I started with basic circles and bird shapes, which gradually changed into tear /rain drops to create more of a dramatic story, and to also express my feelings at the time. Also the weather did affect why I used raindrops too!

Nonetheless, I’m excited to create something new again! What shall I use next???

January 31, 2006 - HAPPY NEW YEAR - Another Year has Just Begun!

Rainbow smiles go out to you all for yet another year of art and more art!

Though my days at my new job seem to take over my time to paint, I still have managed time during the holiday season (Dec. 2005) to paint some new stuff.

My “Flying Free” series is still on a role and I’ve integrated the things that have been influencing me at work into my most recent creations. I find myself drinking tea and coffee everyday, like an addict, so I created “A Teardrop of Tea” and “Meeting Up for Coffee”. The third painting is more of a festive one, in relation to the New Year’s celebration, which I titled “Wine Drop of Swirls”. These three paintings can be hung individually or together, since the background design are connected to flow into one another.

Keep your eyes open for February’s updates! I have some new paintings that I’m working on right now and I’m excited to get them done and up! I’m playing with different materials and ideas so stay tuned for more creations by yours truly!

Caroline
